Open for comments!

Monday, February 20th, 2006

Okay, I finally took some time to fix my comment-spam blocking script. In the end, I decided to switch from the SecureImage plugin I had been using to the Captcha! plugin. SecureImage had worked before, but I think my hosting company changed some settings with ImageMagick and I just don’t have time to figure it out.

Anyway, now you can all post comments again. Of course, you may have all stopped reading my site as I’ve had little to say and no way for you to respond. Nevertheless, the lines of communication are open.

Note to self…

… Never hire the Italians to produce a show. Seriously, did you watch the opening cermonies of the Olympics? Dancing cows, runaway trees (whimisical, but bizarre), guys with flames coming out of their heads representing “passion”, some sort of giant conjoined twin women with 20 legs in camoflauge dresses, formula one race car doing donuts in the court - it was too friggin’ crazy. When they brought out the Italian flag I thought I was watching Logan’s Run.

Opening Ceremonies in Torino
Renew! Wait, Go Olympics!

Carrousel - Logan’s Run
Renew! Renew!

And then there’s the disco music, the teams being led out by women in dresses shaped like the alps, and that strange suspended acrobatic thing that ended with people taking the shape of a dove - that last number looked like an artistic rendering of an infestation of lice. About halfway through the event I became convinced that Trey Parker and Matt Stone were really behind the thing. Once I saw Sophia Loren and Susan Surandan carrying the olympic flag out, I realized it was even too bizarre for the South Park creators to have come up with.

And what can I say about Yoko Ono and her “poem” in which she just says ‘peace’ alot.

Let’s hope the games are better than the ceremony.

Too busy to blog

Thursday, February 2nd, 2006

Once again, I find myself way too busy to stop and post anything. Here’s the quick rundown:

(1) Penny and I went to Philadelphia in early January to visit our dear friends Carmen and Alex. Had a fantastic time and learned something very excited (see below).

(2) I spent a few days in Phoenix for the Libertarian State Leadership Association conference. I also got to visit with my friend Sean, who let me crash at his place. Penny was going to go, BUT…

(3) PENNY IS PREGNANT! Unbelievable as it may seem, we will be parents before this year is over. I’ll definitely post more on that soon. For now, let’s just say we’re extremely happy. This is just what we wanted, when we wanted it. Now we just have to get Penny to feel better. Her body is not happy with her right now. Hopefully it will pass soon.

Oh yeah, I just noticed that you can’t post comments. The captcha image generator seems to be busted. I’ll fix that when I get the time. For now, I’ll just assume everyone out there wishes us well.
